On May 27, 2016, the FDA published the final rules for the new Nutrition Facts label for packaged foods to reflect new scientific information, including the link between diet and chronic diseases such as obesity and heart disease. The new label will make it easier for consumers to make better informed food choices. Added sugar is hiding in 74% of packaged foodsWe tend to think that added sugar is mainly found in desserts like cookies and cakes, but it's also found in many savory and foods, such as bread and pasta sauce. And some foods promoted as "natural" or "healthy", claiming "Whole Grains", "Real Fruit" and "No High-Frusctose Corn Syrup"are laden with added sugars, compounding the confusion. |
