Tell me if this sounds familiar to you. You put in weeks or months of dedicated, hard work in order to drop a significant number of pounds and fat for a special occasion; maybe a wedding, or party, or swimsuit season. But immediately after the big event is over, the incredibly easy (and frustrating!) reality sets in. Without your big event to motivate you, the pounds you worked so hard to lose are slowly creeping back on.

Our kids are eating too much junk. And who can blame them? Junk food tastes great, and it is readily available everywhere. (Don't have kids? You can still keep reading because this goes for most adults as well ?)
The good news is that healthy food can also tastes great, we just need to help our kids realize that. ![]()
When it comes to being healthy, there are two habits that will define your success; eating and exercise. In fact, everyone that you know who is in great shape has dialed in these two important habits.
If you aren’t happy with your body, it's time to think about gradually making some adjustments to your eating and exercise habits. ![]() Keeping your body hydrated should not be an afterthought, or something you randomly choose to do. If you want to live a healthy lifestyle, or have any weight loss or fitness goals, hydration is that "magic pill" you have been searching for and should be the first thing you look to correct. It's one of the easiest things you do to speed up your health goals, less painful than any workout and quicker than healthy meal prep. ![]() The United States will not be escaping the obesity epidemic crisis anytime soon: Nearly 40% of adults and 19% of youth are obese, the highest rate the country has ever seen in all adults, according to research released Friday by the National Center for Health Statistics. Why wait until January 1? ![]() It happens to the best of us, especially at the end of summer. All of that hard work that you did to get in "Summer Swimsuit Shape" has faded into the past after countless vacations, cook outs, and weddings. Those celebratory indulgences have added up over an entire summer, and you're left wondering where your summer body has decided to vacation. But then your self dialogue to get back on track may start to sound a lot like: “I’m just so busy, but when things start to wind down, I’ll get started.” Or, “the holidays are almost here, and the end of the year is only a few months away, so I’ll really get going on my weight loss in the New Year.” However, you don't need to wait for the New Year to start on your fitness goals; In fact, it would be better if you didn't! ![]() It happens to the best of us. A moment in your life when you realize that you’ve let yourself go, and you need to get back on track. The next thought after this realization is to immediately go on a diet and start a strict new workout regimen. But as quickly as this thought enters your mind, so does the doubt of many failed attempts in the past. The final thought in this sequence is despair as you wonder, "why bother?" This diet is going to fail, just like past diets have, leaving you discouraged yet again. It’s time to leave this viscous cycle behind. The best way to do this is to change your thinking, and never diet again! That’s right. The best way to create a lasting change in your health is to promise yourself, right now, that you will never go on another diet…EVER! Added sugar is hiding in 74% of packaged foods![]() We tend to think that added sugar is mainly found in desserts like cookies and cakes, but it's also found in many savory and foods, such as bread and pasta sauce. And some foods promoted as "natural" or "healthy", claiming "Whole Grains", "Real Fruit" and "No High-Frusctose Corn Syrup"are laden with added sugars, compounding the confusion. ![]() A few small changes to your habits can mean big results...if you actually take the steps, and time, to make them. Trying to lose weight by going on a crash diet is like walking into a gunfight with a sharp stick. You might make a little dent, but in the end, you'll do yourself more harm than good. By UConn Rudd Center for Food Policy & Obesity ![]() Residents of one Maryland county bought fewer sugary drinks after a campaign to reduce the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages that included policy changes and public health outreach efforts, according to a new study from the Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity at the University of Connecticut. ![]() By now you are probably aware that the term, eat clean, has nothing to do with washing your food and has everything to do with eating in a way that promotes a healthier lifestyle, and in turn, fat loss. While it may sound simple enough, it’s pretty challenging to stick with a clean eating plan, especially when you are initially starting out. Although....I suppose if it were easy then everyone would be lean and confident about their body. So what’s the secret to long-term, clean eating success? Here it is… ![]() A sugar-laden diet may raise your risk of dying of heart disease even if you aren’t overweight. So says a major study published in JAMA Internal Medicine. ![]() These days you can find a "hack" for everything. There are life hacks (like packing Christmas ornaments in empty egg cartons), food hacks (like placing a handful of cherry tomatoes between two plates and using a knife to halve them all in one fell swoop), and as I'll share with you today, fat loss hacks.
Fat loss hacks are ways of doing everyday things, like eating, in a way that promotes fat loss and blocks fat storage. Sounds pretty great, right?! Here are my 8 most effective Fat Burning Hacks... ![]() Believe it or not, fitness starts in your mind! Ask any athlete or fit person what the number one secret is to his or her fitness success, and their answer will likely be about commitment. If you google (or bing) “motivational quotes”, you will notice that most of them reference working hard, dedication, perseverance, persistency, and doing. It should be no surprise then, that one of the cornerstones to succeeding in anything, especially your healthy lifestyle, is commitment. ![]() You went away for vacation, saw a new part of the world, and now you’re back. While you were away, you ate, you drank, you relaxed, and then of course, you ate some more. But now you are back...and it’s time to face the music. Here's how to get your healthy lifestyle back on track ![]() Your doctor feels like a broken record. That’s right; He’s sick and tired of telling you how important exercise is to your health because YOU AREN'T LISTENING. He’s sick of explaining how so many of your health problems will improve or even disappear as the result of a consistent exercise program. ![]() It’s 3 in the afternoon and you can barely keep your eyes open. Your mind feels foggy, and all you want to do is curl up under your desk for 20 minutes and take a nap. But cutting-edge, productive people don’t take naps, do they? Actually, they do. It turns out that a nap is exactly what you need in the afternoons when drowsiness takes over your body and mind. ![]() I’ve got to warn you. There are many false rumors going around about resistance training. The truth is that strength training is one of the absolute best things you can do for your health and appearance. However, an even bigger concern in the recent poll is that after more than a decade of steady improvements, the decline in mortality rates from heart disease and stroke has dramatically slowed nationally, and nearly leveled out since 2011. ![]() One of the questions I am most frequently asked as a fitness professional, especially now that it is swimsuit season is, “How can I get great abs?” You may have pondered this exact same question at some time or another within the last few months. However, I have to be honest and tell you that doing hundreds of crunches every day trying to get abs before your vacation next week won't work. More simply, crunches alone won’t give you a six pack. ![]() Have you ever seen a really impressive "before" and "after" photo? Of course you have. Now an even bigger question for you.
